How To Get Your Towels as Good as New

Remember the days when your towels were soft, fluffy and super absorbent? If it’s been a while don’t rush out and buy more until you have tried our tips to make your towels feel like new.

Detergent

As fresh smelling as we like to have our laundry, an excess of detergent can cause towels to become stiff and less absorbent.  Try washing your towels separately in less powder – this makes it easier for the machine to wash away soapy residue.

Tumble Drying

Putting your towels in the dryer can make them softer, but in the long run it wears down the fabric.  Alternate between tumble drying and hanging them on the line.

Dryer-Safe Balls

If you do use your dryer often, throw a dryer-safe ball in with your towels. These affordable balls gradually reduce the stiffness in the towelling material.

Vinegar

Adding around 150ml of white vinegar to a load of any washing, not necessarily towels, is proven to soften the material after just a few washes.

Baking Soda

Adding baking soda to the washing powder compartment has a similar effect as the vinegar.  It pulls grime and chemical build-up from the fibres and also removes odours.  But don’t mix baking soda and vinegar together, as that is an unfortunate combination!
