You will need

  • PVA glue
  • Bicarbonate of soda
  • Food colouring
  • Non-saline contact lens solution

Method

  1. Pour the glue into a large bowl.  Depending on the amount of slime you’re after, add anything from 100ml.

  2. Add half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda per 100ml of glue and mix.  If you’ve added more glue, increase the measure proportionately.

  3. Add food colouring to make coloured slime.  Small quantities create a pastel tone and large amounts make vibrant colours.  Once added, stir the mixture until it’s all combined.

  4. Start to add the contact lens solution and stir.  During the mixing process, the slime should start to come together. If it hasn’t, add more solution.

  5. Knead the slime by hand for about ten minutes.  It should keep together and retain its form.  If it’s stringy, add some more contact lens solution and continue kneading.

  6. Try various combinations of colours and quantities of mixture to see how different your slime can be.  Add some glitter for a magical touch, or use more contact lens solution for a really slimy slime.

  7. You can also use old jam jars as containers for the slimes, or use their lids as a display area.  Showcase your dazzling unicorn slime or simply tuck away your oozy gloop for a rainy day.

Whether you’re just looking for something to entertain the kids on a budget or you’re organising an activity for a party, kids love to be creative and experience different textures.  Feed their curiosity with this simple solution.
